Lacoste is the storied French label that adds panache and style to a range of high quality sports and casual wear. The brand’s signature is its famous alligator logo, almost always to be found embroidered to the chest of Lacoste shirts and polo shirts, while featuring on footwear too. That alligator is a subtle reminder that this is no ordinary brand, but a proudly French label with a pioneering history.
René Lacoste was a champion tennis player who adopted the alligator as a personal symbol after an artist friend playfully sent him one he’d drawn. The reference was to a crocodile skin suitcase belonging to an opponent on court. Lacoste wanted the bag, but lost the match and the bet that he’d take the suitcase if he won. Defeat turned into victory when the industrialist André Gillier helped Lacoste bring an unusual garment to market: a tennis shirt with that alligator defiantly on the chest. It was 1933 and the Lacoste fashion story had begun.

Lacoste sizing notes
Lacoste sizing is generally true to your usual size. The company’s shirts and its famous polo shirts are sized numerically or using the alpha (S/M/L etc) method so be sure to check your chest or bust size to be certain you’re selecting the right piece. Shoes are generally sized to EU standards, with some footwear for particular markets - the UK or the US for instance - already converted to appropriate sizing standards.
