Think you know linen? Think again. The famously lightweight, breathable fabric is most commonly thought of as a summer fabric, but as Flax London is setting out to demonstrate, there's so much more to it.

In the two years since it was founded, the British brand has been on a mission to prove the potential of linen, challenging people’s perceptions about how and where the material can be worn.

Experimenting with various weights and weaves, co-founders and linen lovers Callum McCall and George Rutherford-Jones came up with their first signature shirt, the heavy winter linen shirt. Made from 100% Irish linen that is thicker, more opaque, and more textured than standard shirting linen, it's designed to be worn year-round, either as a light summer jacket in the warmer months or buttoned up as an elegant shirt come autumn and winter.

The shirt is also available in a grandpa collar style or smock style, in a range of subdued, versatile hues. The heaviness of the fabric lends it a straight fit that drapes beautifully, so it will look just as great with a casual ensemble of jeans and sneakers as with more formal suiting and loafers.

As big fans of linen, we're delighted at the prospect of not having to retire it to the back of our closet when summer comes to a close. Thanks to Flax, we'll be doing our wardrobes a favour and stocking up on plenty of linen this winter. We can only recommend you do the same.
